VRC Develops 2D Virtual Fitting Using Generative AI

We have developed a 2D Virtual Fitting capability powered by generative AI. It supports a wide range of body types for all genders and enables try-on visualization across many garment categories and designs.

For women's wear in particular—including designs with exposure such as off-the-shoulder styles and body-conscious silhouettes that were hard to render before—it delivers more natural try-on results for complex designs.

■ Feature overview

By combining body data acquired through 3D body scanning with a captured 2D front-facing image, the feature provides: • Analysis based on skeletal structure and body type (body-type diagnosis) • Personalized outfit and size recommendations • Instant try-on visualization powered by generative AI

Users can experience style suggestions grounded in their body characteristics and confirm try-on images in one continuous flow.

■ Business impact

Returns and exchanges driven by wrong sizes or a mismatch with the expected look are a major challenge for apparel e-commerce. Reducing size and silhouette mismatches upfront helps suppress return rates and lower logistics costs.

The feature also streamlines purchase decisions by integrating the steps users need—body-type diagnosis, outfit recommendation, and try-on confirmation. Because users can understand suitable styles and sizes before viewing try-on images, uncertainty at purchase drops and e-commerce conversion can improve.

In stores, eliminating fitting-room wait times and the hassle of changing clothes can improve customer circulation, with more items touched per visit and potential gains in basket size and sales. The same experience can be offered online and offline, aligning well with OMO (Online Merges with Offline) strategies and helping build a consistent purchase journey across channels.

We continue to optimize the overall service including this feature and to improve accuracy, and we will keep pursuing both better user experiences and business outcomes through the fusion of 3D body data and AI.
